Does the light feel too bright, every sound feel too loud, and the pressure in your head make it difficult to think clearly?

Perhaps your headache begins behind your eyes.

Maybe it starts in your neck and travels upwards.

It may feel dull and heavy, tight and pressurised, or sharp and piercing.

You might wake up with it, struggle through work with it, or lie awake at night wishing the pressure would stop.

When headaches keep returning, they can affect far more than your head.

They can affect your:

  • Sleep
  • Concentration
  • Energy
  • Mood
  • Work
  • Family life
  • Ability to make plans
  • Enjoyment of everyday activities

You may have started organising your life around the next headache.

You do not have to simply accept recurring headaches as normal.

Or call Lucy on 087 227 3084 to ask a question before booking.

Your Headache Is Personal to You

When you come to see me, one of the first questions I will ask is:

“Where exactly is your headache?”

People often look at me strangely and say:

“It’s in my head.”

But I need to understand precisely where you feel it.

  • Is it on the left or right side?
  • Is it across your forehead?
  • Is it behind your eyes?
  • Is it at your temples?
  • Is it on the top of your head?
  • Is it concentrated at the back?
  • Does it begin in your neck?
  • Does your whole head feel heavy or pressurised?

I will also ask what the headache feels like.

Is it dull, tight, throbbing, stabbing, heavy or piercing?

Does it come with nausea, dizziness, sensitivity to light, brain fog, neck stiffness or sinus pressure?

These details help me understand your individual headache pattern rather than treating every person in exactly the same way.

Does This Sound Familiar?

You may be experiencing:

  • Headaches that keep returning
  • Pressure behind your eyes
  • Pain beginning in your neck or shoulders
  • A heavy or foggy feeling in your head
  • Throbbing or pulsing pain
  • Tightness across your forehead
  • Sensitivity to light or sound
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Poor sleep
  • Exhaustion after a headache
  • Anxiety about when the next headache will begin

A dull headache can be every bit as disruptive as a sharp one.

You may still be working, caring for your family and getting through the day—but doing everything while carrying persistent pain is exhausting.

How Acupuncture May Support You

Acupuncture is one option some people consider for recurring headaches, including tension-type headaches and migraine.

Your treatment will be based on your individual symptoms and overall health.

I will take time to understand:

  • Where your headache is located
  • How it feels
  • How often it occurs
  • How long it lasts
  • Whether it begins in your neck
  • Whether stress or poor sleep may be contributing
  • Whether hormonal changes are involved
  • What other symptoms you experience
  • How the headaches are affecting your life

Some people report that acupuncture helps reduce the frequency or intensity of their headaches. Results vary, and no outcome can be guaranteed.

Acupuncture can support your care, but it does not replace appropriate medical assessment.

What Happens at Your Appointment?

Your first appointment gives us time to discuss your headaches properly.

You will not be rushed through a short checklist.

We will look at:

  1. Your headache pattern and history
  2. Where the pain starts and travels
  3. Your neck and shoulder symptoms
  4. Sleep, stress and energy
  5. Hormonal or menstrual patterns where relevant
  6. Other symptoms or possible triggers
  7. How the headaches are affecting your daily life

I will then explain whether acupuncture may be suitable for you and what your treatment approach could involve.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many acupuncture sessions will I need?

This varies depending on how long you have experienced headaches, how frequently they occur, and your individual response to treatment. I will discuss this with you after assessing your symptoms.

Can acupuncture guarantee that my headaches will stop?

No. Results vary, and it would not be appropriate to guarantee an outcome. Some people report improvements in headache frequency or intensity.

Can I claim through my health insurance?

Acupuncture may be covered by VHI, Laya Healthcare or Irish Life Health, depending on your policy. Contact your provider to confirm your individual cover.

Should I speak to my GP first?

Speak with your GP if your headaches are new, worsening, changing or happening frequently. Acupuncture should support—not replace—appropriate medical care.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

You may have been tolerating your headaches for months or years.

But if they are affecting how you see, hear, think, sleep, or feel, they are affecting your quality of life.
